Street Talk for the week of February 25, 2010
By Rebecca Eby
Thank you to all of the businesses that participated in our annual Mardi Gras Bash fundraiser this past Monday. Whether you donated a doorprize for the silent auction, volunteered your time, or shared the evening with us by attending, we greatly appreciate your help in our continued existence! As most of you know, we are a non-profit organization that relies completely on support from local individuals and businesses to continue great events such as the City-wide Rummage Sale, Farmers Market, downtown Flower Baskets, and much, much more. So thank you again!
Viroqua Community Theatre’s production of Nunsense is here! Tickets can be purchased at Bramble Books, Citizens First Bank, Nelson Agri-Center, Viroqua Food Coop, Village Market, and Viroqua Bank. Tickets are also available prior to each performance at The Temple Theatre. Prices are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and children 12 and under. The musical is being sponsored by the Viroqua Rotary Club and Gundersen Lutheran Clinic.
Join the crew of the Vernon County Fair on February 27th at The Firehouse Restaurant. The evening will feature appetizers, wine tasting, musical entertainment, and a live and silent auction. The event will run from 7pm-10pm, and cost $8 per person or $10 per couple. All proceeds will benefit the new exhibit hall at the Vernon County Fair. To RSVP, please contact Kevin Larson before February 22. He can be reached at 634-3439.
Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School provides a joyful education for grade school children and aims to instill a respect for and active engagement with nature, a strong sense of community and an abiding appreciation for the values of service. To support and in keeping with these wonderful educational traditions, Pleasant Ridge is now conducting its annual Good Energy Raffle. This year’s focus is “Share the Good Energy” with a grand prize of $2000 cash AND $2000 to the nonprofit of the winner's choice. We felt that this is a theme and gesture in keeping with the needs of our communities. There are many local non-profits as well as the relief agencies organized to help out in Haiti. Tickets are $20 each or 3 for $50. All are invited to the free raffle drawing party, on Saturday, February 27 from 7-10 pm at the Eagles Club in Viroqua. This will be an “adults only” dessert and social event, with door prizes and the grand prize drawing at 9:00 pm. Raffle tickets are still available at the school or from PRWS parents. Discover more by calling 637-7828 or visit www.pleasantridgewaldorf.org/page/support/raffle.
Are you interested in raising our community leadership to the next level? You’re invited to a free talk with Ariane Burgess, founder of Regenerative Culture, about “Creating Regenerative Community”. Held on Tuesday, March 9th at 7pm, this event will be at Western Technical College.
